Previewing from January 23, 2004 at the Minskoff Theatre in New York, Laura played Hodel until June 10, 2004 when she returned to the UK to start her Mary Poppins rehearsals.

This frequently revived favourite was the perfect opportunity for Laura's Broadway debut, especially as the part of Hodel came the best song in the show, Far from the Home I Love. There could not have been a more appropriate song for her situation but it gave Laura the opportunity to make new friends as well as working with Alfred Molina. The critics were suitably impressed, the show received four Tony nominations and Laura enjoyed an all too brief but highly enjoyable American adventure.

The show also gave Laura the opportunity to feature in her first cast recording, released in June 2004 on the P S Classics label.
